Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp butter (cubed)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ tbsp salt
  • ¼ tbsp ground pepper
  • ½ tbsp turmeric (optional)
  • ¼ tbsp onion powder(optional)

Instructions
 

  • Melt 2 tablespoons ofcubed butter in a saucepan over low heat until it starts bubbling. Stir in 2tablespoons of all-purpose flour and whisk until a golden-colored paste forms,which takes about 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Slowly pour in 1 cup of whole milk, a little at a time, while whisking continuously.
  • Turn the heat down to low and let the sauce simmer for about five minutes, whisking continuously.
  • Season the sauce with½ teaspoon of salt, ¼ teaspoon of ground pepper, ⅛ teaspoon of turmeric(optional), and ¼ teaspoon of onion powder (optional).
  • If desired, you can also add fresh herbs, such as thyme, bay leaf, or peppercorns, for added flavor.

Desired consistency and texture of your cream sauce

  • Stir the sauce continuously after adding the milk to prevent lumps from forming and to avoid scorching the bottom of the pan.
  • Make sure the butterand flour mixture is a golden color before adding the milk. This will helpcreate a light and creamy sauce.
  • If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little more milk to thin it out.
